| Nameserver lookup or DNS Lookup is a method for obtaining full name server records of virtually any domain name on the web. NS is just a record class of DNS, which is installed through a web hosting service. Whenever a browser requests DNS address from DNS server, it passes it through a nameserver, and then the nameserver is used to obtain real IP address behind a domain name in return. There are basically two types of nameservers on the web. They are; Shared and Static. With Shared nameservers you share the same IP address with many other nameservers on the web. This kind of security is great if you are using domain name for business purposes. If you are using domain name for personal purpose then Static nameservers is ideal for you. Static nameservers are normally used when you are registering domain names. Shared nameservers on the other hand, are not used when you are registering domain names. There are actually many different types of DNS records that can be found in a domain registrar. For your information, each domain name will have a primary nameserver, secondary nameservers, network masters, DNS database entries and others. This way, you can utilize your reserved hosting space for other purposes while your DNS records are being established and recorded. Static nameservers and shared nameservers are both used for the same purpose - to point your domain name to a specific IP address. However, there are certain differences between these two types of DNS records and they are important to know. Static DNS lookup provides full domain name lookup functionality. A Static- DNS gives full domain name lookup functionality regardless of whether the domain name is pointing to a unique IP address or to another domain. A Static- DNS also allows you to establish DNS record names within the zone information section of your certificate. There are many advantages associated with having a Static- DNS such as preventing the server reset when you make changes to DNS zone settings. It also helps to protect against hacking by preventing attackers from tampering with the DNS server. Another advantage of a Static- DNS is that it also enables you to specify the DNS zone length which is an important feature when you are working with multi- DNS zones. Static- DNSs can be configured to use wild cards, where each zone will be assigned a different IP address. The Shared- DNS allows you to specify the DNS zone names which can be resolved during queries. This feature is great when you have many sub-domains which point to one main domain. In addition, Shared- DNS also allows you to specify the DNS zone length which is an important feature when you are working with multi- DNS zones. You can determine the names of the primary nameserver records for all zones that point to the main domain. To determine the best DNS service for your company, you should consider the DNS records of your nameservers. For your information, there are two types of DNS lookups available - manual and automatic. Manual DNS lookups require you to manually input the IP addresses of the nameservers that you want to check. An automatic DNS lookup can perform DNS requests to as many as 100 nameservers. However, an automatic DNS solution is more dependable than a manual solution. |
